Body Domes have gotten a lot of attention lately on the infomercial circuit. And, to my horror and against every grain of wisdom I had to offer, my own mother was reeled in by claims that this wonder dome would help her lose up to a pound a day if she followed the 10-minute daily workout regime.

I hate to say it folks, but your mother isn't always right. In my dear mother's defense, and I'm really stretching it here, the body dome is based on the same principles as the stability ball. It focuses on strengthening your core stability. However, for $100 online (on average), I could have purchased her a stability ball in every color of the rainbow and a complete set of resistance bands.

Ok, because she's my mother I went over to look at the thing, but mostly to say "I told you so!" The Body Dome is basically a large, rubber inflatable dome that sits on a hard plastic bottom. It has 2 long and 2 short resistance bands connected to the bottom on either side for resistance training purposes. In theory, I'm sure the dome does have some redeeming core-strengthening attributes. As I said, it works on the same principles as a $20 stability ball or a $60 wobble board because it forces your body to keep its balance while standing on the ball in essence, strengthening your core muscles (the abdominals, hip flexors, lower back, shoulders, arms, chest, back, legs and hamstrings).
