Training on a heavy bag training strengthens your cardiovascular system, tones and strengthens your muscles, burns fat; increases bone density and connective tissue resilience. Not only can you get into great shape, but you can develop functional self-defense qualities at the same time. This training also builds speed, power, balance, timing and coordination.

Heavy bags are stuffed bags that weigh between 40 and 100 pounds. They're typically made of canvass, vinyl or leather and come in various sizes, depending on your preference. They typically start at around $100 online.

To take a round out of your heavy bag, first you need a place to hang it. Heavy bags are commonly suspended from the ceiling at a level that hangs vertically, so it can be punched and kicked by the user. Screw it into an eye-hook on a beam in your basement ceiling or use a metal bracket to anchor it into a wall or door frame.
