Pro-Style Dumbbells Boulder City NV

You don't have to tell me that buying equipment for your home gym can be overwhelming. What doesn't help is that gym rats and weight lifters sometimes take it upon themselves to dub the equipment they use by cute little nicknames. This only adds more confusion to the equation. At the gym I constantly hear lifters tossing around terms like "fixed" versus "solid" versus "pro-style" dumbbells.

Pro-Style Dumbbells

You don't have to tell me that buying equipment for your home gym can be overwhelming. What doesn't help is that gym rats and weight lifters sometimes take it upon themselves to dub the equipment they use by cute little nicknames. This only adds more confusion to the equation. At the gym I constantly hear lifters tossing around terms like "fixed" versus "solid" versus "pro-style" dumbbells.

Really, pro-style dumbbells and solid dumbbells are both types of fixed dumbbells, but I use the term "fixed" loosely when it comes to pro-style dumbbells and I'll get to that in just a moment. Yes, both types have weighted ends that are "fixed" in place either with solid construction (as with solid bells) or a permanent bolt (as with pro bells).

The differences begin with pro-styles. These bolted dumbbells are assembled by placing individual weight plates on a dumbbell handle and then securing them with a bolt mechanism. The plates on pro dumbbells are not meant to be removed, like they are with adjustable dumbbells that use weight collars.

As I said before, I used the term "fixed" loosely, and when I say loosely I mean that I find that the major deterrent for me is that pro-style dumbbells tend to loosen over time. I've heard about manufacturers' butt-fastening methods constantly, but realistically all pro dumbbells must be inspected and maintained constantly to ensure the bolts remain secure and the plates don't fall off on your foot, chest or head. However, the upside is that they are a bit cheaper than solid bells, but I personally wouldn't risk a bruised skull over a few bucks. If you're set on pro dumbbells, buy a set with hex bolts as these are known to have the most durable locking mechanisms.

I think if you can afford the initial purchase cost, solid dumbbells will save you time (by reducing maintenance costs) and the money (due to replacement costs) in the long haul. Solid dumbbells feature permanently welded handles that don't nee...
