If you're like many folks at the gym, then you prefer reading while walking on your treadmill or riding the elliptical trainer. Although I firmly believe that sweating your butt off should be all that you're concerned with when working out, I have been known to warm up while reading a magazine article. And it's nice to have something to focus on through the constant stream of sweat pouring into my eyes.

This is where reading racks come in handy. Reading racks slip over or fit onto virtually on any fitness machine. If you've been to a gym lately you might have spotted a collection of clear plastic brackets over by the magazines. These are reading racks and this shelf-style hooks over the display of your exercise bike, elliptical trainer, and stepper and so on, via a plastic lip. Your magazine, book or newspaper lies against the flat front portion of the reading rack while a bottom lip holds the magazine upright.

During your gym visit you might have noticed that some of the newer exercise machines have reading racks built right into them. Built-in reading racks are usually constructed of the same metal as the machine. They provide a little ledge over the machine's display in which to lean a book or magazine.
