Step aerobics is popular because it's simple to do and requires little equipment or space. All that's required for a butt- and thigh-blasting step session is a flat surface, a step platform and a lightweight, sturdy pair of sneakers.

There are many companies that sell step platforms, but then try and tempt you with extras such as exercise videos and step aerobic guides. But if you're on a budget you can make your own step platform from typical household items such as a block of wood, a milk crate, a short stool or a concrete block. Just be sure that your raised platform is sturdy so you don't fall off and break your recently finely toned backside that's right, I found out the hard way that the toned ones don't provide quite as much padding.
