Swim Fins

Have you ever wondered why ducks can swim so fast? The answer is their webbed feet.

Swim fins, fins or flippers are webbed rubber shoes worn over the foot to speed up your movements in the water. Swim fins are typically used for sports activities like snorkeling and scuba diving. However, swim fins can be also used to improve your kick strength, ankle flexibility, body position and speed in the water.

Wearing fins during aqua exercise allows you to hold your body stable in the water. The stability will let you to focus on your muscles and exercise technique; rather then on struggling to keep yourself upright.

Swim fins with different shapes, flexibilities, fastenings and sizes serve different purposes in the water. For example, short-bladed fins allow more speed. The shorter and smaller the fins, the closer your swim kick will be to your regular swimming speed without fins. Also smaller, lighter, more flexible fins put less stress on the ankle and are a lot more comfortable for beginner fin swimmers.

Medium-bladed fins, on the other hand, allot more power per kick. However what bigger fins offer in strength they lack in speed. Therefore, bigger fins amplify the power behind kicks, whereas smaller fins amplify your speed.

Long-bladed, wide swim fins are more commonly used for scuba diving, whereas shorter, smaller fins are more useful for water workouts. Swim fins start at $20 online, but can flutter kick to $150 a pair.
